Peter L. Madsen, a Woodbury County pioneer resident, was born in Denmark January 28, 1855, and died in the Methodist Hospital in Sioux City on Wednesday, February 4, 1942, at the age of 87 years and 7 days. Death was caused by heart trouble. Mr. Madsen had been bedfast two weeks and was taken to the hospital the day before his death. He was married to Hedvig Petersen in Denmark. They came to the U.S. in 1888 and settled on a farm near Battle Creek, Iowa. In 1891 they moved to a farm near Anthon and resided there until 1924, when he retired and they moved to Sioux City, where he had made his home since. Survivors include his widow, Hedvig Madsen, two sons, Chris and Peter of Anthon, six daughters, Mrs. Mary Haneklaus, Mrs. Kirsten Andersen and Petra Madsen of Sioux City, Mrs. Laura Behrens and Mrs. Ella Renneker of Anthon, and Mrs. Eva Bruce of Rock Island, Illinois, and ten grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, February 6, in the Anderson Chapel in Sioux City with Rev. Walter Voss of Trinity Lutheran Church, Sioux City, officiating. Burial was in the Rock Branch Cemetery.
